As part of our DT curriculum, Year 3 children mastered the art of cutting, seasoning, filling, and sealing of vegetable samosas. This hands-on session challenged them to explore healthy, savoury ingredients for their samosas. We certainly have some talented young chefs among us! Year 3 took part in a live Assembly with explorer Robert Swann OBE direct from Antarctica. They learnt about the conditions in Antarctica as well as the effects of climate change. The children were also introduced to the 2041 project which aims to protect Antarctic for future generations.

On the 9th December, 6 of our school councillors attended the School Council Conference, along with 34 other Luton primary schools. We had the opportunity to share Downside's views about what makes Luton great and what we can do to make Luton even better, to members of Luton Borough Council. This is to help the council with their goal of making Luton a 'child-friendly town' by the year 2040. It's amazing to know that the children of Luton can make an impact, and that Downside have been able to play their part in shaping the future of Luton!

After weeks of building our skills up with chalk pastels, we completed our final piece today. We all drew the composition of the fruit bowl and then used chalk pastels to create a 3D effect using shading, smudging, hatching and cross-hatching.

We are delighted to share that on Tuesday 2nd July Downside Primary were crowned Luton Schools Athletics champions. (for the first time ever!!!) The team had 26 children finish in the top 8 positions 16 medals in total 6 gold medals 4 silver medals 6 bronze medals (3 children also came 4th) It was a brillant way to finish 2024 and we are so proud of all the children who competed and they all showed the usual determination, positivity and skill (DPS) that you would expect from Downside children. WOW! WOW !
