Wednesday 4 February 2026 National Year of Reading 2026 In celebration of the National Year of Reading, our Year 6s joined a virtual workshop with storyteller, published author and rapper Alim Kamara to explore the magic of rhythm and poetry. They even had a go at writing their own raps, inspired by superpowers!

Wednesday 4 February 2026 Year 4 science- Snap circuits. This week, our young scientists from Year 4 used Snap Circuits. The children explored the basics of electronics by clicking together their own working gadgets. From spinning fans to glowing lights, the room was full of "aha!" moments and plenty of excitement. It was fantastic to see such great teamwork and problem-solving in action!

Tuesday 9 December 2025 Year 5 Visit to Verulamium Museum in St Albans - Brampton Class The Year 5 children have been learning about the Romans, and as part of the topic, they visited the Verulamium Museum in St Albans. During the visit, the children gained an understanding of Roman daily life at Verulamium, developed their reasoning and observation skills through object handling, and acquired specific knowledge of Roman food, clothing, and lifestyle/pastimes.

Friday 5 December 2025 Year 3 Antarctica live assembly Year 3 took part in a live Assembly with explorer Robert Swann OBE direct from Antarctica. They learnt about the conditions in Antarctica as well as the effects of climate change. The children were also introduced to the 2041 project which aims to protect Antarctic for future generations.

Wednesday 26 November 2025 Year 3 Church Visit Year 3 children visited St Mary's church as part of their RE topic ' what kind of world did Jesus want?' . During the visit, the children learnt about the history of the church and the role of a vicar.

Tuesday 11 November 2025 Year 6 Remembrance Assembly. Pupils in Year 6 took part in an incredibly moving and thought-provoking 'Remembrance Assembly'. They heard anecdotes from veteran soldiers, heard from individuals currently serving in both the Royal Navy and Army and reflected upon their sacrifices.

Friday 10 January 2025 Downside Sprint to Town Athletics Success Congratulation to the Year 3&4 and Year 5&6 athletics team who ran, jumped and threw to town success this week. The Year 3/4 team finished 3rd and the Year 5/6 team finished 1st. Both teams have qualified for the COUNTY finals in February 2025.

Thursday 17 October 2024 Community family coffee morning Our annual Parent Coffee Morning took place on Wednesday 9th October 2024 and was a huge success.The turnout was fantastic, and parents took away a lot of information and advice. All the agencies were highly impressed with the parent turnout and engagement.

Wednesday 9 October 2024 Challney Boys and Girls visit- online safety and tranisition. Year 6 pupils were treated to, not one, but two assemblies by staff and students from both Challney High School for Boys and Challney High School for Girls. The first session focused on the importance of staying safe online and how we can protect ourselves against scams whilst the second session helped prepare students for their transition to high school. We would once again like to take the opportunity to thank the students from Year 7 and 8 who delivered the sessions so confidently, professionally and full of enthusiasm- you were all credits to your families and schools!
